vending jargon...explained!
Glossary of Terms!
Ambient.........................room temperature
Base cabinet................storage cabinet usually used with tabletop machines
Brewer..........................apparatus for making freshbrew coffee or tea
Canister........................container used within machines for ingredients
Cappuccino..................originally a hot Italian morning drink made from coffee, creamy topping and finished off with a sprinkling of chocolate. Vending Capuccino has chocolate added. Now consumed throughout the day in the UK!
Capsule........................container used with "closed system" to hold ingredients, ie Kenco Singles
Carbonated drinks.......cold drinks with added C0² ie., sparkling
Cartridges.................... container used with "closed system" to hold ingredients, ie Fountain
Cashless....................... term used to describe a credit system for vending which requires no cash
Change giver...............facility to give change from a coin mechanism
Closed system............drinks system which compels the user to buy ingredients from one source or supplier
Coin Mech. or Coin Mechanism......automatic device which allows payment to be made
Dispenser or Drinks Dispenser ......manual table top vending machine
Disposable Cup........... also called plastic cups used in vending machines. The most common size is 7 fl oz, but 9oz and 12oz cups are also available.
Digicard....................... a type of cashless system
Espresso....................... name give to strong black coffee usually served in a demo-tasse (small cup). (In vending machines espresso is about half a cup full...there is nothing wrong with the machine!)
Filter Coffee................ ground coffee to which water is added in a filter or brewer
Free vend..................... vending machine with no coin mechanism
Freshbrew Tea............. real tea-leaves to which water is added in a filter or brewer
Freshbrew Coffee........ see filter coffee
Fully Automatic........... machine which vends at the press of a button
Gas Bottle.................... CO² container used in drinks machines to carbonate drinks
Ground Coffee............. see filter coffee
Hotplate.......................facility on filter coffee machines used to keep coffee warm. Also available as a free standing item
Incup ............................ drink vending system where the drink is supplied in sleeves of prepacked cups
Instant Drinks............. non-freshbrew drinks., ie freeze dried coffee
Jigger........................... single serve container (usually of milk or cream)
Leaf Tea....................... see freshbrew tea
Lease............................the most popular form of financial agreement used to acquire the use of vending machines.
Loose Ingredients........term used to describe ingredients which are delivered in pillow packs or bags. see pillow pack
Management Fee......... the charge made by vending companies for providing an Operating Service
Operating Service.......the provision of a cleaning, filling, sanitisation, cash collecting,etc., service
Pillow Pack................. individually packaged product, usually in foil or paper bags.
Plumbed-in machine.... machine which is connected directly to mains water
Pods....Tea bag like ingredients which are used in high quality closed systems like Mokador utilising leaf tea and ground coffee
Reconditioned, Remanufactured, or Refurbished Equipment.................... the specification of this equipment varies greatly from company to company. Make sure you ask for details of precisely what it is you will be receiving.
Rental.......................... method of acquiring a vending machine on weekly, quarterly or monthly terms
Semi Automatic............ equipment which requires the user to do a little more than press a button., ie., move a cup into place
Settlement Figure........ the amount required to settle an outstanding lease agreement, when no new business is forthcoming
Sleeves.........................means of packaging disposable cups or incup drinks, whereby cups are inserted into one another
Tabletop machine........ machine which is not free standing and can sit on a table- top! Most have base cabinets as an optional extra.(see base cabinet)
Sachet.......................... single service container
Tank Fill machine........ machine with its own in-built water reservoir, which requires no plumbing
Upgrade figure............ the amount required to settle an existing lease when a new agreement is being put through the same finance company
Whitener...................... also known as non dairy creamer (usually a mixture of vegetable fat and glucose)
